Show: Last Word with Lawrence o\'donnelldate: guest of September 19, 2018: Kristine Lucius, host of the show by Lisa Graves, Xue Richard Lawrence O\'Donnell: Good evening, Rachel.
December 18 will be a Christmas shopping night for me, but, OK, I will be here.
I will be here on December 18. That`s in.
Rachel, you know what, I have to say I made some notes here.
When you say that the top member of the Trump administration pleaded guilty, I was so deep at Kavanaugh that I said something and forgot the name Michael Flynn.
Brett Cavana took up the space.
Rachel maddow, MSNBC host: I know.
You know, from now until December 18, we will receive a variety of interesting documents on his sentence, and the prosecutor will tell us in the documents facing the public how much he has worked together.
So, from now until he is sentenced, we will learn a lot about how Flynn is considering in this case.
It should be interesting to know where Mueller and his team are located.
O\'Donnell: we have now started to discuss the lies that members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are now trying to sell to the public, and I have a few former Senate Judiciary Committee staff to help me with this.
So that\'s what we have to do.
Well done, my friend.
Thank you. Lawrence
Thanks, Rachel.
Tonight, Senate Republicans are trying to bully a woman and have her testify to the Senate Judiciary Committee about their tenure.
The terms provided by Republicans to Professor Christine Brasi Ford are worse than those provided by the Senate Judiciary Committee 24 years ago to professor Anita Hill in similar circumstances.
There are no other words to explain, sorry, there is no word to explain what Chuck Grassley, Republican chairman of the Judiciary Committee, is trying to do to the doctorFord.
That\'s what the Senate says about bullying.
The Senate president has the power to bully.
Chuck Grassley tried to use his.
Chuck Grassley desperately tries to create reasonable public reasons for everything he does.
But, only if you know nothing about the history of the Senate proceedings, the Senate committee proceedings and Chuck Grasley\'s own judicial committee, and most importantly, the personal history of Chuck Grasley
In fact, most Republicans in the Senate do not know the procedures of the Senate.
In fact, so is the Democratic Party.
They do not understand the procedures of the Senate Judicial Committee, and in fact do not.
They do not know the history of the Senate Judicial Committee, and few do.
Only one person knows the personal history of Chuck Grassley on this issue.
That\'s 84-year-
Sitting next to the 85 th, old Republican senator Olin Hatchyear-
Now old Chuck Grassley of the Senate Judiciary Committee
They are two Republican members who have been here before.
They were two Republicans, and when professor Anita Hill came to the same committee to testify against Clarence Thomas being nominated as the Supreme Court by the Republican president, she personally bullied her, because she said he sexually harassed her in the workplace and elsewhere.
27 years later, they were the only two Republicans still on the committee. Twenty-
Seven years passed when Anita Hill testified to the committee.
They\'re still there.
The FBI investigated Anita Hill\'s allegations against Clarence Thomas.
Everyone thought it was a reasonable thing at the time, and it was the only thing that could be done.
The FBI investigation took only a few days.
No one says we don\'t have time for an FBI investigation.
No one said that because no one would believe it then.
Just like standing in the Senate saying the Earth is flat.
Everyone in the Senate knows that there is no deadline for the committee to confirm the vote, and there is no deadline for all members of the Senate to confirm the vote.
Chuck Grassley is now trying to pretend that there is some sort of deadline that doesn\'t allow the FBI to investigate, and we know it only takes a few days for the investigation.
The best witness against Chuck Grassley in this lie is Chuck Grassley. (

Chuck Grassley (R)
Iowa: when the chairman of the Judiciary Committee and senior members of the Judiciary Committee were informed of the allegations, the FBI was immediately ordered to investigate.
The investigation was completed before the Senate Judicial Committee voted on Friday, September 27, 1991. (END VIDEO CLIP)
Chuck Grassley.
When the chairman of the Judicial Committee, when senior members of the judicial committee were informed of the charges against Anita Hill, the FBI was immediately ordered to investigate.
Chuck Grassley believes that this is the right thing to do when he is a junior member of the Judicial Council.
When Anita Hill testified, Olin Hatch was a member of the Judicial Council.
He couldn\'t help but talk publicly about the details of Anita Hill\'s pornographic content that Clarence Thomas told her at work.
Senator Hatch received sufficient qualifications in the Senate and eventually became chairman of the Judicial Committee before becoming chairman of another committee.
This is what Olin Hatch said about the FBI investigation into Anita Hill\'s allegations. (

Utah: President Biden and senior member Thurman, when they first heard the news, they immediately ordered the FBI to investigate, which is a very correct thing.
It is appropriate to do this.
They did what other chairs and senior members had done in the past.
The investigation has been completed and this is a good one. (END VIDEO CLIP)
O\'Donnell: It\'s a very correct thing that they immediately ordered the FBI to investigate.
That\'s the only thing Olin Hatch said.
This is a very correct thing.
It is appropriate to do this. They did that.
They did what the other chairs and senior members had done in the past, and Olin Hatch said it was true.
It was true.
It\'s true now, but Orrin Hatch won\'t say it now.
Now, when the two old men in the Senate, Olin hatch and Chuck Grassley, are lying to us now, they lie as if they didn\'t know the video was still there.
They lied as if they had forgotten that every word they said in the committee and in the Senate had a congressional record.
Chuck Grassley and Orrin Hatch both believe it is appropriate to investigate the charges against Anita Hill for only a few days.
Now, they say there is no reason to do so before listening to the doctor.
Ford\'s testimony
That means Senator Grassley\'s response to Dr.
Ford\'s testimony to the committee was malicious.
Chuck Grassley won\'t even give her what he thinks is right for Anita Hill.
Before he abused Anita Hill
He did it himself at the hearing.
We saw what they did to Anita Hill.
When Anita Hill walked into their hearing room, we saw what those Republican senators had done to her. Dr.
Ford said Brett Kavanagh sexually assaulted her and tried to rape her.
Brett Kavanaugh said such a thing has never happened.
One of them, one of them, wants the FBI to investigate and the other does not.
Why did Brett Kavanaugh ask for an investigation? Why? Why not? Why doesn`t (AUDIO GAP)
Submit to the best (AUDIO GAP)
We have investigators. Why?
Ford wants an FBI investigation?
Why is she doing this?
Why do Senate Republicans want to save Brett Cavana from the problems facing the FBI?
Every reason they give is a lie-every reason.
You just saw Olin Hatch say it\'s appropriate to do so.
When the Justice Council learns of Anita Hill\'s allegations against Clarence Thomas, you see Chuck Grasley saying that\'s exactly what it did.
Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee and all Republicans in the Senate, all of them, each of them, each of them is now lying, saying that there is no need for FBI investigation.
This is a lie that every Republican in the US Senate now agrees. Why should Dr.
Ford was hostile to her Senate testimony and accepted worse terms than the testimony of Anita Hill from the same committee?
Chuck Grassley pretended he gave Dr.
Ford options, the option to testify privately, is not what she asked for, nor is it the option to testify publicly.
This is the way to pretend to be a doctor.
With regards to how to do this, Ford has some menu of multiple options in front of her, but the choice she wants is more time because she and her family have basically become fugitives, try to avoid the story and the death threat that comes with it.
She wants what Anita Hill gets.
She wants an FBI investigation.
She wants the FBI to take a basic, decent approach to the issue first.
Chuck Grassley won\'t do that.
Chuck Grassley said there was no investigation by the FBI.
The only possible time on the calendar is 10: 00 on Monday. m.
No other time is possible.
In his bullying letter to the doctor today.
Ford\'s attorney, Chuck Grassley, has asked for something that is less likely to comply, in which case it is even more bullying than it is at 10: 00 on Monday. m.
Make an appointment in Washington, 2,500 miles from her home.
On the last line of Chuck Grassley\'s letter to Dr.
Chuck Grassley says Ford\'s lawyer
Ford\'s prepared testimony and biography will be handed over to the Commission by 10: 00. m.
If she intends to testify on Monday, Friday, September 21.
Dr. Chuck Grassley was asked
Ford\'s full written testimony before 10: 00 A. M. m.
Friday of this week, so that he and the members of the committee can spend the whole weekend, and of course, the leak can also start at 10: 00. m.
Friday morning.
Chuck Grassley didn\'t expect to be here. Even when Dr.
Ford\'s allegations were made public for the first time, and he remains confident that he will be able to vote on the nomination tomorrow.
This week, Chuck Grassley, along with other Senate Republicans, began to believe that they would vote on the nomination tomorrow.
Chuck Grassley and other Republicans in the Senate started this week thinking that they will have a committee vote on the nomination tomorrow.
They think they don\'t have to delay anything, they are wrong.
They are wrong about what will happen next.
Chuck Grassley now thinks he knows what\'s next.
But Chuck Grassley misjudged Dr.
Kristin Blasi Ford is on every step of the way to our present.
So now we know Dr.
Ford handled his way to deal with the committee this week-the first week of her public life in the United States.
But what we don\'t know is
How stupid is American news media?
This is one of the times when we have to ask this question.
I\'m not talking about Fox News.
I mean journalists and media organizations that should know better.
How many of them are going to put the microphone outside and have Chuck Grassley escape any lies he wants to say about not having time to be investigated by the FBI?
This is the time when voters need the news media, because voters can\'t give up everything they do at work, rush to Washington to occupy the Hall of Russell\'s Senate office building or Dixon\'s Senate office building, tell them how these senators are.
There is work to be done now, it is an important job that only they can do.
The job is not simply to promote and pass on the lies of Chuck Grasley and Olin Hatcher, and now all Republican senators are lying about not having time for the FBI investigation
The job of the news media now is to infiltrate and expose this lie. That is a lie.
Any member of the news media that accepts the lie has not been questioned by any Republican member of the Senate, who are complicit in the lie.
The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee is committing crimes against the truth in his committee.
I\'m no longer sure if Chuck Grassley knows this.
I no longer believe Chuck Grassley has any memory of what he said at the Clarence Thomas hearing.
When I was working as a Democratic staff member on the Senate Finance Committee in 1990, I worked with Chuck Grassley.
On this committee, Chuck Grassley is always reasonable and, if occasionally a participant in the committee\'s work, he almost always votes against everything I try to pass this committee, but I have never doubted Chuck Grassley\'s integrity and his work with the Finance Committee at the time.
But I\'m sorry to say that Chuck Grassley has been in the Senate for too long. Listen. Listen to this.
Listen to the first words that Justice Commission Chairman Chuck Grassley said today when asked why he opposed the FBI investigation. (

Grasley: let you all understand-maybe I should say men and girls, maybe I \'d better say men and women. (END VIDEO CLIP)
Yes, senator Grasley, 2018.
We call them women now.
Now join our discussion, Christine Lucius, former staff director of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
She is the executive vice president of leadership meetings.
And Lisa Graves.
Director of the record
She is a former chief legal adviser nominated by senior members of the Democratic Senate Judicial Committee.
She is assistant deputy attorney general of the Ministry of Justice.
Christine, thank you so much for joining us tonight.
Lisa used to be with us, and I-now is the time when we need the expertise of the former staff of the Senate judiciary committee to guide us through what we are doing now.
I want you to respond to the Republicans on this committee, including Jeff Fletcher, who seems to sound reasonable earlier this week, sticking to that position, and the FBI absolutely has no time to look into it.
Christine Lucius, former staff director of the Senate Judiciary Committee: Lawrence, I think you\'re right.
I think it\'s ridiculous.
As you said in the comparison, Anita Hill was treated by the Senate Judiciary Committee on 1991,
President Grassley\'s attitude towards Blasey Ford is worse for two reasons.
One of the reasons you noticed was that she asked the FBI to look into it first.
The tape you just played shows that both Senator Grasley and Senator Hatcher talked about that.
This is the obvious first step and what needs to happen next.
Anyway, Chuck Grassley denied it.
Blasey Ford, apparently the government is also denying this.
I think it will make a lot of people wonder why?
Why don\'t they want the FBI to go out and investigate these allegations? Dr.
Blasey Ford wants to investigate.
But the second thing that President Grasley did to her worse than Anita Hill was that he said there were only two people who could testify, only a doctor.
Brasi Ford and Brett Cavana
This is worse than the treatment that Anita Hill received.
The external witness she was able to call confirmed her statement.
They don\'t allow doctors.
Ford did the same thing and it really shows what they hide?
It really makes people understand that, you know, it\'s as bad as Anita Hill is being treated and their impact on doctors is even worse
The question is, why?
What are they hiding?
O\'Donnell: I want to be a doctor.
Lawyer Ford\'s response to Senator Grassley tonight
The announcement said that the Commission\'s announced plan to advance the hearing of only two witnesses was not a fair or sincere inquiry.
The names of multiple witnesses have appeared publicly and should be included in the proceedings.
It is not necessary to hold a hearing in a hurry, contrary to the truth found by the Commission.
Lisa, as Christine said just now, I have put forward a point that they have provided
Ford\'s condition is much worse than Anita Hill, and the situation is much worse than what they offer.
We know how bad the Anita Hill hearing is going on, and you would think that this committee has learned something from it,, what they have learned from this does not seem to be as fair to witnesses as we are to Anita Hill.
Lisa Graves, former staff member of the Senate Judiciary Committee: It\'s really shocking, as Christine said, and as you pointed out, they made up some ideas that it\'s unprecedented to seek the FBI, a follow-up
In a series of work by the FBI, when their own words reveal how false these statements are, supplement the investigation to check this out.
The Justice Department is also accompanying them, which is in some way beyond the scope of the background investigation.
Christine and I have read hundreds of FBI documents.
We know this is not the case.
Senator Grasley cheated the American people in the process.
I was shocked to hear that he said it was some sort of separation of power issue and that they could not order the administration to do this investigation.
The fact is that in this case, the top-ranked members and chairs never agreed to request information, and in this case it is clear that further investigation is necessary.
God knows that Brett Cavana has time in his hand.
For the last three days, he stayed at the White House as a murder committee, basically trying to figure out what he would say and to what extent he would be insulted, how will he answer some questions that he claims he does not know.
He could have been interviewed.
But it seems that the chair has blocked this precedent and lied to the American people about it, presumably to the rest of the committee.
If Jeff Fletcher believes Senator Grassley\'s view of the chairman of the committee, he will be sold a list of goods.
As never before, don\'t let the issue go back to the FBI, with a further investigation by a professional, and know how to do it.
O\'Donnell: Kristin, we\'re now seeing Jeff Fletcher join forces with Susan Collins to treat Dr.
Ford said, of course, she should have appeared at 10: 00 on Monday. m.
, As if there is absolutely no other space on the calendar.
Lucius: Yes, it\'s ridiculous that this must happen next Monday.
What happens during the normal course of the bipartisan process is that the chair and ranking will work with witnesses to ensure that they can succeed.
I am surprised this week that you asked chairman Grasley to announce that when we now know that there is no agreement, she will come and not discuss with her repeatedly to accommodate survivors of sexual assault.
So it seems like a process that is completely different from what Lisa or I was involved in when I was working on the committee.
There\'s one more thing I want to say.
Lawrence, when you were there, you mentioned your experience with the Finance Committee.
My experience with Senator Grasley when I served on the committee was that he was really independent, he was principled, he kept his word, and he liked to really protect the whistleblower.
I\'m surprised here how he treated the whistleblower I think
Blasey Ford stands up at risk to tell her story.
His attitude towards her is not the same as I have seen him treat whistleblowers for many years working in the committee.
So, it was particularly surprising to me because of his performance in this situation, because over the years I saw that he was very confidential, or need to protect whistleblowers who come forward to inform the committee at risk of occupation and privacy.
O\'Donnell: Lisa, I would like to hear your response to this and your personal views on Senator Grasley and hatch.
I want to be here, in the Senate Finance Committee, where I work with the two of them to wrap the brackets around.
I have to say that this is a very good working relationship.
They are on the other side on almost all issues, but they are responsible and everyone thinks they are a firm, responsible Republican on the side of the table.
We have never had any reason to question their integrity in anything.
This is a very different environment and intent.
So, I was very disappointed to say these words to any of them, to say these words to two.
But Lisa, tell me about your experience with Senator Grasley and Senator Hatch.
Graves: Well, after a close look at them, what I can tell you is how much they show concern in trying to reach a compromise on legislative, judicial nomination issues, they took a very tough line.
This tough line is basically either forcing them or forcing them to break the rules in order to force these judges to appear in the lower courts, and now the vacancies in the Supreme Court.
In the process of judicial appointment, no rules are allowed to hinder them, and history, precedent, practice are not allowed.
And there\'s some irony, where you choose to go to America alone. S.
The Supreme Court explains that our laws may violate almost all norms, practices and precedents of the Senate and Senate judicial committees.
O\'Donnell: Lisa Graves and Christine Lucius, thank you so much for joining us tonight.
We really need your expertise in this regard.
We really appreciate it.
Thank you very much.
Lucius: Thank you very much.
Graves: Thank you.
O\'Donnell: When we came back, the president attacked his attorney general again today, and there is no doubt that he was trying to fire him after the midterm elections.
Cecil Richards will be with us to witness her experience of giving evidence to hostile Republicans in Congress, what does that mean for Dr.
Christine brasie Ford
Later, Brett Cavana and his Republican supporters seemed very, very scared to investigate. (
Business break)
O\'Donnell: Brett Cavana, in response to questions about his involvement in e-commerce, was charged with perjury at the confirmation hearing
Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats stole emails that were provided to Brett Kavanagh while he was working at the Bush White House.
Except for the truth, all the truth is not the witness style of Brett Cavana in the confirmation process.
The committee asked Brett Kavanaugh for all his speeches, which he gave them, including a written copy of his speech at the Catholic University law school.
But he ignored a very important lie now.
Not now. Is it to lie to the committee for not lying?
Is this just an oversight? Here it is. You decide. (

Supreme Court nominee Brett Cavana: three of my classmates at Georgetown Prep graduated from this law school in 1990 and they are my good friends Mike Bidwill, Dan Urgo and Phil Merkle, they were my good friends at the time and we were all together until this weekend and they were still my good friends e-commercemail together.
But fortunately, we have a good saying that we have stuck to this day because the Dean reminded me before the speech that this is the case of Georgetown Prep at Georgetown Prep.
I think it\'s a good thing for all of us. (END VIDEO CLIP)
O\'Donnell: this is not in the written version of his speech to the Commission, what happens to Georgetown Prep, stay at Georgetown Prep.
\'This is a good thing for all of us, \'he said.
There\'s no one inside.
Today, the former family planning chairman wrote on Twitter: before the Republican-led group knew it was not true, any woman was called --finding.
Disguised as a political theater looking for truth.
Former family planning President Cecil Richards is joining us now.
Cecile, you know better than most people.
If she did lift her right hand to swear and testify to the committee, Ford would join in.
What will you tell the doctor?
What is Ford doing tonight?
Cecil Richards, former president of family planning: Well, I mean, I think she\'s fully aware of that.
I think this woman is obviously thinking about what she did.
I respect her and how she handles herself.
All I know is that in the four hours before I was on the Republican committee, that\'s not true --Find the hearing
It is not an effort to find out the truth.
It\'s actually an opportunity for members of Congress to show and show in front of a television audience, and frankly, it\'s an opportunity to humiliate me and other women who come to them.
That\'s the dynamic, and I think that\'s why, of course, ironically, they refused to allow the FBI, which is actually a fact --
Finding the organizations and institutions to investigate the matter made me more suspicious.
I think what they really want to do is set up a political arena and she is very smart and takes care of it.
O\'Donnell: I \'d like to read to you what Republican Senator Dean Heller of Nevada said today on a conference call, and it\'s been reported now, it\'s a conference call for Republicans in Nevada
This is certainly an internal observation of how people in the Republican Senate see this.
He said we had some minor problems with the nomination in Kavanagh and we will get through it and we will start the game.
So, a little hiccup for him.
No, that\'s right.
I mean, you see, she\'s going to come to a committee that includes Senator Lindsey Graham who calls it a drive-by shooting.
We have certainly received a letter from Senator Hatch, who thinks she is just messing up.
So it\'s not that she will come to a fair group of people who really want to know the truth.
If they want to know the truth, they will ask the FBI to investigate the matter as she requested.
But, as we can see, they are trying to get in the way of this nomination.
When you saw Merrick Garland, he was certainly nominated and spent 300 days trying to stop him from actually enjoying the nomination.
So I think it\'s a committee that is already politically bad for her and they want to interfere with her and bully her.
I think she is very smart and thoughtful about how she goes through the process.
O\'Donnell: I mean, we have to get you here at 10: 00 on Monday. M.
But oh, by the way, make sure you have all the written submissions for us at 10: 00 on FridayM.
That is to say, we don\'t want your best testimony, we don\'t want you to be ready, we don\'t want you to rest, we don\'t want you to get out of this crazy bubble that you \'ve been glaring at since the story was made public.
Susan Collins encouraged it all.
Susan Collins encouraged Chuck Grassley to do all the bullying here.
Richards: It\'s very frustrating to see what the senators have said, treating her with a skeptical attitude, not really trying to stand up and talk about the nominated person, not just an ordinary judge, it is also a lifetime appointment of the Supreme Court.
I also think it\'s important that Lawrence and I know that you will be aware of this because every woman is watching.
If anyone in the committee thinks that women do not notice this, they should wait until November 6 because women are frustrated.
They are disgusting to see women being bullied.
They are tired of seeing that women are not treated fairly and listen to our stories.
So I hope the Republicans on this committee really think very seriously about how they treat this woman.
Celine Richards, thank you very much.
Yes. Nice to see you again.
O\'Donnell: Thank you very much.
Richards: Thank you very much.
O\'Donnell: When we came back, it was more about the FBI investigation and why Brett Kavanagh was afraid to talk to FBI agents because lying to FBI agents was(
Business break)
O\'Donnell: Before professor Anita Hill testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee accusing Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment at the Supreme Court confirmation hearing, U. S. President George H. W.
Bush ordered the FBI to investigate Professor Hill\'s allegations.
The FBI interviewed Anita Hill on these charges.
The FBI interviewed Clearance Thomas on these allegations and submitted a report that was immediately handed over to the Senate Judicial Committee.
The president ordered an investigation by the FBI because Justice Commission Chairman Joe Biden called the then White House lawyer
Boyden Gray asked the FBI to investigate and, of course, Republican White House lawyers immediately agreed that the FBI should investigate.
Trump\'s White House adviser, Don mcghain, is now in the Senate to preside over the Kavanaugh nomination.
He is by Brett Kavanagh\'s side every moment, but Don mccohen is not C.
So we don\'t have an FBI investigation.
Donald Trump doesn\'t know what the president\'s job is, so we still don\'t have an FBI investigation. (

Reporter: How did you react to Ford\'s request for an FBI investigation?
Will you order one?
US President Donald Trump: Well, it really doesn\'t seem like the FBI did.
They \'ve looked into it. -Reporter: If you let them go, they will, sir. President.
TRUMP: They \'ve looked into it about six times before and it doesn\'t seem like they did.
Reporter: They will do it if you let them do it.
Would you consider asking them?
TRUMP: Well, I will let the senators take their course.
Let the Senator do it.
They did a very good job.
It really depends on the Senate, and I really rely on them.
I think they will do a good job. (END VIDEO CLIP)
O\'Donnell: No, it\'s not up to the Senate.
In this case, the FBI\'s investigation of possible rape attempts actually depends on itself.
He acknowledged that he is currently a sexual offender of the president of the United States.
Join us now.
Former Assistant Attorney General for the water gate incident, banks, also joined former US president Joyce Vance. S.
Lawyers in northern Alabama and professors at the University of Alabama Law School.
Both are legal contributors to MSNBC.
Jill, you have a situation where two people in a room in high school are talking about what\'s going on in that room.
One person said, \"he tried to rape me,\" and the other said, \"This has never happened,\" but only one person wanted an FBI investigation.
What does this tell us about the two men now looking for the truth? JILL WINE-
Bank, assistant special prosecutor for the former water gate incident: it said a lot.
It is said that one of them knew the facts would support her and the other was afraid of what the investigation would show.
Otherwise, both of them will ask for an investigation.
There are three people in the room, not just two, all three need to testify.
Though, the investigation before the Senate now is a scam and a scam.
This is totally unfair.
Its structure has been said to the senators, \"Well, she\'s confused.
I don\'t believe this will happen.
\"We should not attend the hearing like this.
This requires a full and fair hearing.
He\'s not talking about-she said.
Not two witnesses.
Before the hearing begins, the FBI can find all the witnesses through thorough investigation.
That\'s what we need.
This is the demand for justice.
This is what the truth requires.
This is a requirement to respect women.
Women will listen and will watch and will vote according to what the Senate is doing now.
O\'Donnell: Let\'s once again let Olin Hatch on 1991 prove to you tonight that olinhatch today lied that there was no time to be investigated by the FBI. (

I don\'t think anyone is like this.
I want you to order an FBI investigation.
I want to make it really right. Senate staff
I would like some people who have nothing to do with the Senate to look into this matter, because I think this is the only way we have a little chance to get to the bottom of the truth. (END VIDEO CLIP)
Joyce Vance, today, Chuck Grassley said, \"No, no, no.
The staff of the Republican Senate Committee are the best investigators.
Joyce Vance, former United StatesS.
Lawyer: Well, he made the right case a long time ago.
There is no doubt that the FBI, the professionals who are conducting background checks, can play a role here, preventing them from playing that role has hindered the investigation in many ways, and block senators who must vote to confirm that Judge Kavanaugh did not have the critical information needed to perform his constitutional duties.
The FBI did it soon.
Everyone working for the Department of Justice has seen a wave of judicial confirmation investigations.
They can do it quickly.
It will not delay unnecessarily.
In the meantime, it will be given to the Dr.
Ford, the time she needs and the time she deserves, to be honest, as a non-
Counsel who had never previously testified on the Hill to prepare her testimony, was aware of the process and appeared so that she could submit it to the senator along with all the information found by other witnesses and the FBI.
O\'Donnell: Jill, there are two reasons why the Bush White House ordered the FBI to investigate Anita Hill\'s allegations.
One of the reasons is that they have confidence in their nominees and their nominees are telling the truth.
The other is that it is impossible for them to expect the public to allow this confirmation to proceed, or for the Senate to proceed without further investigation by the FBI. WINE-
Banks: I think it\'s true, but there\'s no such thing in the age when this fact is really a lie.
That\'s what happened. They now think they can get away with it at the White House.
It will be an anger.
We need an investigation.
That\'s what we deserve, and we can\'t let her get more abuse.
I remember the recent Anita Hill hearing and Rachel McDo played the tape of the hearing, which I think was shocking last night.
It\'s terrible.
If we want some independent sources to investigate, I recently worked on a commission at the Pentagon to study sexual assault in the military.
We have a complete system to look at attack charges, sexual assault charges.
As an independent source, military lawyers and investigators are well prepared and should be required to conduct such investigations.
O\'Donnell: It\'s a crime to lie to the FBI. Dr.
Ford knows.
Brett Cavana knows this.
One of them is not afraid to talk to the FBI, only one. Jill Wine-
Joyce Vance, bank, thank you for participating in our discussion.
When we come back, it seems that President Trump is very afraid of losing Brett Kavanagh because his Supreme Court picked Brett Kavanagh and we will find out if Brett Kavanagh then, we will find out if Jeff Sessions will spend another year as Minister of Justice, or if the president\'s attack on him today is the general of Jeff Sessions\'s last days as a lawyer. (
Business break)
O\'Donnell: The good news tonight is that Donald Trump thinks he has no attorney general.
This is good news because he should not have the minister of justice.
There should be a justice minister in the United States.
Is there a justice minister in the United States?
Or, the question is how long will the US attorney general be?
In an interview published today, President Trump told Hill, \"I don\'t have the Minister of Justice, which is very sad.
I\'m sorry Jeff Sessions came to me.
He was the first senator to support me, and he wanted to be the Minister of Justice, but I didn\'t see it.
Then he passed the nomination process and he did a very poor job.
I mean, he\'s confused.
The Washington Post reported tonight from the leaker inside Trump\'s White House that the president\'s recent attack on his attorney general, \"This is also the original expression of a president\'s vulnerability and anger, his colleagues say he is increasingly convinced that he is not protected.
\"After breaking up with Jill, we will have more information about the unprotected president and the attorney general he hates --

Business break)
O\'Donnell: Today, the president basically said that he will fire his attorney general after the mid-term elections, and then before the Democrats take over the Senate on January, rushed to get the new attorney general to win the Senate in the mid-term elections through the confirmation process.
Well, he\'s not using these words. (

Trump: I am disappointed with the minister of justice for many reasons, and you understand that.
Reporter: Are you going to fire him?
Are you going to fire Jeff Sessions?
Trump: We\'re looking at a lot of different things. (END VIDEO CLIP)
O\'Donnell: Join our discussion, Jill.
Banks and Joyce Vance who came back with us
Joyce, John Weaver, a prominent Republican strategist, said on Twitter today that he mentioned two senators last week, saying that Jeff Sessions was following the November 6 election.
Vance: It\'s an incredible irony that the president\'s first supporters have fallen out of favor.
There is no cover for the work here.
The president has never been aware of the fact that Sessions sidestepped Russia\'s investigation and wanted a lawyer to protect him, more of a staff officer than a minister of justice.
He is not such a person.
O\'Donnell: Jill, that means that Robert Mueller will be effectively removed or fired by the new attorney general who the Republican Party rushed through.
The new attorney general will control Miller\'s investigation.
Vance: Well, presumably he or she would do that, but that assumes that the person has nothing to do with the campaign as well as with any Russian, because if he or she did, then, this also needs to be avoided.
There is no doubt that Jeff Sessions was asked by law to avoid himself.
What the president wants is that he wants his old lawyer, Cohen, to be a lawyer for the Justice Department, a complete misconception about the role of the attorney general.
I think it\'s a shame for the United States that we can\'t expect the Justice Department to work for justice, justice.
O\'Donnell: Joyce, Robert Miller has to see it coming tonight, if not sooner.
Assuming that after Jeff Sessions is fired, he will be effectively dismissed, what precautions can he take in the investigation?
Vance: Mueller\'s investigation will not end if Robert Mueller is fired.
He is very careful. He planned it.
He and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein were involved in the investigation at the law firm.
We have seen prosecutors in the Southern District of New York, and we have seen cases in the Colombian district.
As you can imagine, there are other offices that may have jurisdiction.
Lawrence, the reality is that once the investigation begins, the prosecutor and the agent will not give up the investigation.
They will move on.
This case will continue.
Miller may even launch the sealed indictment in due course after he leaves.
As a result, the government could hardly close it by appointing a new justice minister.
O\'Donnell: Jill, as the prosecutor for the water gate incident, I know that\'s something you\'re worried about.
What would happen if President Nixon fired the whole team?
But there seems to be nothing you can do in this case. WINE-
Banks: Well, actually, there are a lot of things that can be done, but there is an important step, that is, the grand jury that is listening to the evidence now has the inherent power to release the report, and the District\'s chief judge, the Colombian court, may order the jury to proceed with the investigation and allow the jury to disclose the evidence.
In fact, this will be the road map for impeachment, and this is what we saw in the water gate incident, where we appointed the president as the co-accused who was not prosecuted
Evidence was also provided to the house judicial committee.
But it\'s probably going to be public, and it\'s a very good way.
O\'Donnell: every time I shut up and listen to the last word of the legal team, I keep learning something. Jill Wine-
Banks and Joyce Vance, thank you for joining us tonight.
