diy convert led panels to 12v
A very good LED recently
The panel on Ebay caught my attention and it looked like the attached photo.
These LED panels now have a large variety, including round, square, or rectangular, starting with power from 3 watts to 30 watts or even higher.
Most of these panels are from China and are very cheap.
Includes a drive that works on 100 to 240 v ac power supply, so it works worldwide.
I used an average panel of 15w for testing (8″ round)
I was wondering if it would be possible to convert the LED panel to 12 V instead of normal AC-grid.
On the driver it reads: output 48-
58Vdc at 300 mA, so it is about 15 watts.

There is indeed 48Vdc in the driver, but the current is a bit small, about 260 mA.
The drive can be opened with screws-
Driver, it just clicks with the small PCB in the middle.
Wires can be removed from the board by welding-iron.
There should be no need to say that the drive is powered off.
But if your driver is not easy to open or you want to disconnect the panel quickly, just use the wire
Cutter and cutting line for pliers.
I disconnected the wire with a soldering iron, which left a nice clean drive.
This also maintains the maximum length of the wire, but still looks a bit short, so I extended it a bit with some cables, but it\'s not related to the project. To optain 48V (in this case)
It is relatively easy to use the right DC power supply from 12v power supply
DC converter, step-
Because we need a higher output voltage.

This inverter can be converted from inputrange 10-
32V output-range of 35-60V.
The maximum power is 120 w, it is recommended to increase the cooling when it is over 80 w, but since we only need 15 w, this should not be a problem. Get the DC-
DC converter and connect it to the 12 volt Road on the input
Side, look at the polarity.
The output can be measured without connecting the LED panel. The factory-
The default value may be lower or higher than the 48Vdc required for our panel.
If required, adjust the output of the inverter to approximately. 48 Volts.
Then disconnect the 12v volt input and connect the panel.
Re-open the 12 V and enjoy the 15w LED panel.
With a new connection to the panel, it is good to measure things in the final process: output voltage: 48V (

The output current is 250 mA (
Like before with the driver)
Input voltage: 12V (
It\'s a bit high because it\'s a battery, but the output stays stable)
Input current: 1. 2A (as expected)
The input current is much higher than the output current of the LED panel.
Ohm\'s law definition: voltage x current = power, so 48v x 0. 26A = 12. 48W (
A little lower than the promised 15 W).
The same power must be obtained, so 12. 8V (
Actual battery output)x 1. 2A = 15. 36W.
The output power of the input power ratio and the efficiency of the DC-
Almost 82% of DC converters are now counted, which is not bad.
Although the output voltage of different drives varies depending on the output power, these drives are usually constant
Current output, which means LED-
Panel, very different from the output of DC-
Can handle DC inverters above 5A.
This can easily damage the LED in the panel, or worse.
Measuring the output voltage with the connected panel is the best way.
